The ONE Billion Challenge

Greener Journeys’ ONE Billion Challenge is simple:  Remove 1 billion car journeys from our roads over the next 3 years (2011-2014) by getting people to change just 1 journey in 25 from the car to bus or coach. That’s just over 1 a month.

Achieving the above would generate 50% more CO2 savings from transport than currently planned by Government over the same period.

So, just how can we do it?

To help us succeed in The ONE Billion Challenge, here are some small changes that can make a big impact:

  • Make just one extra commute by bus or coach a month
  • Three out of every 100 parents letting their children travel to school by bus
  • Every couple of months taking the bus to the town centre to do the shopping instead of the car
  • Instead of driving to the bank, the doctor or the hairdresser, just take the bus
  • Do one leisure trip per month by bus or coach – such as taking the bus to the cinema, for a day out, or to visit friends
